This is my grandmother, she resides in Taipei. Shes the one that let me in the kitchen to cook, and experiment. When I was 9, I tried to bake my first cake in a microwave oven, because a typical chinese kitchen did not have an oven that came with a stove. Well the microwave gave out some sparks, and the cake taste like cardboard, and she was a good sport about it and said you just need to add some sugar! She was sweet, I love her and miss her tremendously. She was the first person to teach me how to crush and peel garlic using a knife. And her BBQ spareribs is legendary in our household. Along with her love for Mongolian Barbeque, and amongst many other dishes she buys and alters. This is what Sugadaily is about, its about mixing, matching, altering, reinventing food, with the soulfulness of family, culture, and travel.
